  • Model: Olympus Stylus Epic QD CG Date 35mm Camera

Review Olympus Stylus Epic QD CG Date 35mm Camera / Olympus Stylus Epic QD CG:

Precision-crafted and styled for success, the Stylus Epic has an ultra-compact, all-weather body so it's easy to carry and easy to hold, and a high-resolution 35mm f2. 8 lens to help you capture high-quality images. Fully automatic operation, intelligent variable-power flash, and lots more of the advanced features that have made Stylus cameras famous worldwide are included. The powerful six-mode flash lets your pictures come out just the way you saw them. Auto color-balancing fires automatically when your subject is backlit or under artificial light so your pictures display more natural color tones. And red-eye reduction helps the subject's eyes adjust to the light level of the flash to minimize the red-eye effect. There's also Variable-power flash, Night Scene Flash, Fill-In Flash, and Flash Off to help ensure your pictures are properly lit. The durable Olympus Stylus Epic offers full-featured, high-quality 35mm operation in an affordable package. With this ultra-portable point-and-shoot-one of the smallest 35mm cameras available-you'll never leave your camera at home. While it's extraordinarily light and small, the Olympus Stylus Epic is heavy on styling and great features. [+]
It sports a miniature version of Olympus's signature clamshell sliding case, making it easy to turn the camera on and off. Its good-looking, high impact case is durable and splashproof. The Olympus Stylus Epic offers the advanced features of Olympus's larger camera lines, including quartz date and time imprinting and a self timer. The Olympus Stylus Epic also has a whopping six flash modes, including automatic, red-eye reduction, and night scene. The Olympus Stylus Epic was a pleasure to use-it was as small or smaller than many of the new Advanced Photo System (APS) cameras, but uses standard 35mm film. Its tapered design made it easy to slip in a pocket, and since it was little larger than a deck of cards, we found ourselves carrying it everywhere. If you hate lugging even a normal-size point-and-shoot around, the Olympus Stylus Epic has the portability you need. Pros: Extremely lightweight and compact Durable construction Wide range of flash options Affordable Cons: Battery compartment is hard to open.

Review Pentax ZX-L Date w/28-90mm Lens Kit / Pentax:

The innovative Pentax ZX-L features super-compact dimensions, simple operation, and Pentax's original Auto Picture Mode with a large illuminated mode dial. Designed for intermediate photographers yet easy enough to use for the budding amateur, the ZX-L is fully equipped with high-end features. The Auto Picture Mode automatically selects one of five picture modes: landscape, close-up, action, portrait, or standard program. The latter setting is based on your subjects' distance, lens focal length, and movement; the ZX-L then tells you the camera's decision via the illuminated mode dial. This eliminates the need for you to flip through different modes yourself when photos are quickly needed. You can tackle any lighting situation with the built-in flash (with red-eye reduction) and Pentax's sophisticated six-segment multi-pattern light metering system which calculates the optimum exposure, so that even the most difficult high/low-contrast lighting situations are no problem. The predictive autofocus function automatically detects your subject's motion and anticipates the correct positioning at the time of shutter release, resulting in perfectly focused pictures even when the subject is moving toward or away from the camera. You can also create artistic shots by combing exposures onto a single frame. When taking three or more exposure onthe same frame, simply press the multiple exposure button after each exposure to create your image. This camera also features quartz dating, panorama mode, and a remote control.

  • Model: Olympus Newpic Zoom 90 APS Camera

Review Olympus Newpic Zoom 90 APS Camera / Olympus Zoom 90:

Equipped with a powerful 3x zoom lens, the Newpic Zoom 90 Advanced Photo System camera offers the simplicity and convenience of drop-in film loading and the ability to switch picture formats mid-roll. Take beautiful photos with point-and-shoot ease, wherever you go. The camera features a fully automatic focus and exposure control that makes shooting a snap; the push-button controls that let you zoom in or out to get composition just right; you can even choose Landscape mode for crisp, clear images of distant vistas. The Advanced Photo System (APS) has inspired new levels of innovation in the point-and-shoot camera category. Though late to the game in bringing APS cameras to market, Olympus more than makes up for its tardiness with the Newpic Zoom 90. What really sets APS cameras apart from their 35mm cousins is ease of use. And the Newpic Zoom 90 is one of the easiest APS point-and-shoot cameras around. The camera has a 30-90mm zoom lens (equivalent to a 38-115mm lens in the 35mm format) with an active autofocus system; the focus lock lets you zero in on subjects that are outside the autofocus range. The Newpic Zoom 90 has six flash modes, including red-eye reduction and fill. As with most APS cameras, film loading is practically idiot-proof and pictures can be formatted in three sizes: Classic (C-4 inches by 6 inches); HDTV (H-4 inches by 7 inches), and Panoramic (P-3. [+]
5 inches by 10 inches). The Newpic Zoom 90 includes a self-timer, a diopter viewfinder adjustment, which is important to those who are nearsighted or farsighted, and a time-date stamp function. Straightforward and easy to use, the Newpic Zoom 90 is a great way to get started in APS photography. -Harry C. Edwards.
