Review Leica 8x42 Black Leather Covered Binocular / Leica 40271:

For adventurous individuals who are always looking for something new to discover, nature is their realm of constant challenges. They set out to search for unforgettable impressions and images. It is for these individuals that Leica develops binoculars and spotting scopes, optical instruments that embody the full technological know-how of the brand. Many outstanding Leica binoculars based on this premise have already been created, but now, Leica has succeeded in establishing an entirely new category : The line of Ultravid binoculars. Logically tailored to the intended use, every technical and ergonomic detail was painstakingly examined, perfected or completely reinvented. A housing made of magnesium, a central hinge shaft of extremely sturdy titanium which materials could possibly be more robust and lighter at the same time ? The optical system Leica HLS which optics could be more brilliant ? The new shape with its outstanding ergonomics what could possibly be more pleasant to use ? It is the sum of all these qualities that qualify every Ultravid as a binocular for individuals with the highest demands. LEICA ULTRAVID BL: The classics catch up with modernity : With their high-grade leather covering, the LEICA ULTRAVID BL models look particularly elegant and extremely compact. The are deliberately remindful of the binoculars and cameras that made the name Leica famous around the world. They weigh less thsn 700 g/ 25 oz making them (42m.

Review Tele Vue Starbeam with Flip Mirror for 8" or Larger Schmidt Cassegrains. / Tele Vue SFC1009:

Starbeam's unique flip mirror feature provides comfort and flexibility for viewing straight through and 90°. Viewed straight through, you see the natural sky with a 10 arc-minute (1/3 Moon dia. ) "red-star" showing your scope's position. When your scope is pointed high, flip the mirror into position for more comfortable viewing. The size, color and adjustable brightness of the "red-star" makes it easy to see against any twilight to dark sky background. With its 39mm aperture, the projected image is easily seen any distance behind Starbeam, whether 2 inches or 2 feet! The finely made glass lens acts as a beamsplitter to combine the natural sky background with the superimposed red pointing "star. " The first lens surface acts as a collimating mirror so the "red-star" stays stationary against the sky background regardless of your eye position. A compensating curve is designed into the second lens surface to provide the normal sky background view and is multi-coated to eliminate double images. Elegant in design and form, Starbeam is custom machined completely from aluminum and then black anodized, even down to the "push-pull" thumb screws. No tools are required to align Starbeam with your telescope. [+]
This new Starbeam model has a dovetail bar and mounting bracket that fits the rear cell of any 8" or larger SCT. The bar and bracket are also sold separately so any Starbeam owner can adapt the uniquely accurate, large aperture.
