  • Model: Orion 20mm Ultrascopic, 1.25" Eyepiece

Review Orion 20mm Ultrascopic, 1.25" Eyepiece / ORION:

The Ultrascopic eyepiece series offers unsurpassed image fidelity. Rather than having a single layer of magnesium fluoride on most lens elements, Ultrascopics are Ultra Multi-Coated, meaning that every air-to-glass lens surface is vacuum coated with multiple antireflective layers. There is no higher level of multi-coating. These coatings, coupled with a low-reflection barrel with blackened lens edges, improves both brightness and contrast of faint nebulas and galaxies. These premium 1. 25" eyepieces employ 5- or 7-elements using high-refractive-index glass. Each produces a wide 52-degree apparent field of view (49-degree for the 35mm). Internally threaded for filters.

Key features ORION
  • Plugs into a car cigarette light or a field battery (sold separately)
  • Runs on 12-volt DC power
  • Electronic dew elimination system keeps dew from forming on the corrector lens
  • Fits all Meade and Celestron 8" Schmidt-Cassegrains
  • Model: Orion Dew Zapper for 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain

Review Orion Dew Zapper for 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain / ORION:

With Dew Zapper, you'll never have to stop observing to remove condensation from the front plate of your Schmidt-Cassegrain or Maksutov-Cassegrain. An unprotected corrector lens will radiate heat, quickly cooling to below ambient air temperature, allowing dew to form. Dew Zapper gently replaces lost heat, bringing the temperature of the corrector lens back above the dew point. Dew can't form, and you never get "heat wave" disturbances like those caused by warm-air blowers and heated dew caps. The flexible, fiberglass-reinforced heating element straps securely in place with a Velcro fastener. Runs on 12-volt DC power. Plugs into a car cigarette-lighter receptacle or a "field battery," delivering up to 20 watts, 2 amps. All models include a 10' cable.

  • Model: Celestron 31mm Axiom LX 2" Eeyepiece with 82 Degree Wide Field of View

Review Celestron 31mm Axiom LX 2" Eeyepiece with 82 Degree Wide Field of View / Celestron:

This 2" Celestron Axiom LX is an excellent low power eyepiece with an exceptionally wide field of view, one so wide you have to move your head from side to side to see it all. The six-lens design is primarily designed for no-holds-barred low power deep space use. It is particularly well-suited to get the maximum image brightness and field of view out of big Dobsonian scopes, but will work well with any telescope that can use 2" eyepieces, even an f/15 Maksutov. This eyepiece has a very large 6. 9mm exit pupil with an f/4. 5 scope, larger than some observers' eyes can dilate. That can effectively waste some of the scope?s light gathering capacity, as some of the full light cone will fall on the observer's iris, rather than entering his or her eye. Even so, some observers willingly trade a little light gathering for the immense field of view of this 82? apparent field eyepiece. This eyepiece very much provides a true "picture window of space" view. With a usable eye relief of 21mm, the 31mm Axiom LX will provide fully unvignetted views for most eyeglass wearers. [+]
However, since the 82? field is so wide that you can?t see the full field without having to move your head from side to side to take it all in anyway, vignetting in the conventional sense is not a problem in any case.
