- Model: Celestron NexStar 80 SLT Computerized Telescope
Review Celestron NexStar 80 SLT Computerized Telescope / Celestron 22086:A step up from the 60mm model, the NexStar 80 SLT Refractor gives images that are bright and crisp. The 80 SLT offers 80% brighter images than the 60mm scope. Like the other models in the SLT Series, the 80 SLT comes with a fully computerized hand control with a database of over 4,000 celestial objects! With its pre-assembled, adjustable steel tripod, the NexStar 80 SLT can be up and ready to use in a matter of minutes. The SkyAlign alignment technology and the included StarPointer Finderscope with a red LED makes aligning a breeze. A wonderful first-time astronomical scope, the 80 SLT can also be used as a great, land-based spotting telescope with optional erect-image diagonal. SkyAlign With Celestron's revolutionary new alignment technology, setting up and using a computerized telescope is faster and easier than ever before! Point the telescope at three bright objects in the sky and the telescope tells YOU what the objects are. You do not need to know the names of the stars - you can even pick the moon or bright planets! SkyAlign is the easiest method to align a computerized telescope, it's perfect for beginners and provides the convenience and accuracy demanded by experienced users. SkyAlign is the only alignment method where you truly do not have to know the night sky - and it's only available from Celestron. Celestron's computerized NexStar 80 SLT offers a significant step up in performance compared to 60mm telescopes. This 80mm telescope has 78% more light gathering power than a 60mm scope, and that means more Lunar and planetary detail, and more stars visible on any given night. [+]
Celestron's new SkyAlign technology is remarkably quick and easy to use. You won't need a GPS receiver or a star chart. In fact, if you can see the moon just choose "Solar System Align", enter the date and time, point the scope at the moon and push the "Align" key. This simple procedure was all I needed to initialize the computerized tracking system and start taking pictures with my Celestron NexImage CCD imager. The NexStar computer allows the telescope to track quietly and accurately with surprisingly good precision. When I use the three star "SkyAlign" mode to initialize the telescope, the GoTo system consistently places deep space highlights like the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy and the Double Cluster in Perseus near the center of the low power eyepiece. The standard equipment 25mm eyepiece (36x magnification) or an optional 32mm plossl (28x) provide nice low power views of these objects. The tracking system also makes it easy to get some delightful high power views of the moon and planets. The included high power 9mm eyepiece gives a magnification of 100x, but I find the views are quite good up to 150x when I use an optional 6mm plossl. The NexStar 80 SLT is large enough to show good detail on the moon and planets, but it's not large enough to bring out much detail in deep space objects. Globular cluster M13, for instance, looks very comet-like with a glowing core and feathery edges; it simply takes a larger telescope to see M13's individual stars. The other drawbacks to this telescope are its short battery life and a mount that wobbles while focusing at high power. Try setting an external 12 Volt battery like Celestron's Power Tank on the accessory tray; it will power the scope and reduce vibrations at the same time. -Jeff Phillips Pros: Easy computerized pointing and tracking High contrast views of the moon and planets Cons: Short battery life Wobbles while focusing at high power Too small for deep space. |

Key features Celestron 93624
- Increases contrast through selective filtration
- Made of high quality, solid plane parallel glass with excellent homogeneity
- For viewing many common nebulas
- Anti-reflection coated to prevent glaring and ghosting
- Reduces glare and light scattering
- Model: Celestron 93624 Narrowband Oxygen III 2 Filter
Review Celestron 93624 Narrowband Oxygen III 2 Filter / Celestron 93624:The OIII narrowband filter isolates just the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae, while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black sky background and the faint photons of OIII light needed for detailed views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell, Crescent and Orion nebulae, among other objects. Each filter has an ultra hard, vacuum-deposited coating carefully designed to block all of the visual spectrum ranging from 400 to 700 nm. This eliminates the un-natural colored halos surrounding bright stars common with O III filters of less sophisticated coating technology. The Celestron 93624 Narrowband Oxygen III 2-inch filter is a remarkable advance for the serious visual observer of emission nebulae. One of the biggest advantages of narrowband filters is that by passing only the light emitted by nebulae, light from artificial sources like street lights is blocked. This allows you to take detailed exposures of nebulas from a suburban location that can rival shots from much darker sites. The Celestron 93624 is made of high quality, solid plane parallel glass. |

- DOB Telescope. The 8" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian make it an ideal dedicated telescope for wide-field, deep-space observation of faint galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters
- Model: Sky-Watcher 8 inch Newtonian Reflecting Telescope with Dobsonian Mount - Sky-Watcher S11700
Review Sky-Watcher 8 inch Newtonian Reflecting Telescope with Dobsonian Mount - Sky-Watcher S11700 / Sky-Watcher:SW8DOB Corresponding to the escalating "aperture fever" that has gripped amateur astronomy for several decades, an 8" diameter is now generally regarded as the minimum entry-level aperture for serious observing. The low cost, large diameter, and fast focal ratio of the 8" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian make it an ideal dedicated telescope for wide-field, deep-space observation of faint galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. The low-power dramatically captures wide swaths of sky in a single view. Galaxies and nebula appear to pop out of the heavens as bright, expansive masses of stars, gas, and dust. Observing with the 8" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian If you have never before observed through a high-quality, wide-field Dobsonian, like the SW 8" DOB, you are in for one of the sweetest experiences in amateur astronomy. Imagine the exhilaration of opening a clam and discovering a pearl. The sky is full of pearls, astronomical pearls. While they won't make you rich in the financial sense, for amateur astronomers at least, observing the fabled pearls of deep-space is a rich and even exhilarating pastime. A catharsis for the soul that renders the mundane insignificant, and reconnects us with the inner child who revels in awe and wonderment. A night observing with the SW 8" Dob can leave you with a lingering sense of contentment long after the evening's viewing is over. [+]
Some of amateur astronomy's most revered and enthusiastically observed extra solar-system objects are now within your reach. This instrumentation provides entry into the brotherhood of serious amateur astronomers?you have arrived! The summer sky is aglow with astronomical pearls. In the constellation Sagittarius several of the sky's most prominent emission nebulae can be seen well in your 8" SW DOB. The Lagoon Nebula (M8) is a rich aggregation of dust and gasses illuminated by its youthful central stars. This is an area of star formation, the universe giving birth. The Lagoon Nebula appears fiery red in astrophoto. |
